So much so that the government has been infantilised, civil servants’ competence has been undermined and decisions are taken for the State by outside companies that have no skin in the game. This is leading to the crazy situation that consultancies, not government departments, are running the place. There has been a coup d’etat at the very heart of government and no one noticed a thing.
