The Economics of a United Ireland
Can we afford it? Can we afford not to unify? Northern Ireland costs the UK Exchequer more than €10 billion a year and, with a huge public sector, it has much lower social welfare rates than the Republic. On the other hand, cross-border post-Brexit trade is booming and there could be huge benefits to an integrated all-island economy. If a United Ireland is really on the cards, what does it look like economically and can the island prosper as a whole?
