The Economics of Energy

The Economics of Energy

Economics is about energy. No energy, no economy. The war in Ukraine was a warning shot underscoring how dependent we are on cheap energy. From here, energy supplies are uncertain, some energy companies are on the verge of bankruptcy and an entire economic and social model built on cheap, reliable energy looks over. We are also in an environmental race to find new, cheap renewable energy. Will nuclear power return? Or will the degrowth movement win, prompting us to downsize? Will Ireland be a wind energy superpower? It’s all up for grabs.
